With its authentic adventures, spectacular scenery and numerous things to do, it’s no wonder that Catalina Island has become #Kidalina Island. Part two of our series on things to do on Catalina with kids includes grade schoolers and tweens. Click here for part one.

Grade schoolers

  1. See fish fly – at high speed – Catalina newest adventure includes seeing one of its oddest creatures. Each summer, flying fish return to Catalina Island and you can see them each evening from the Cyclone, a high-speed boat that rushes through the waves.
  2. Find the Catalina treasure – the Catalina Island Museum offers a great break from the sun as well as a fascinating look at Catalina history and compelling exhibits. Kids under 15 are free with an adult ticket. Be sure to ask about the scavenger hunt.
  3. Parasailing – Kids age six and older can soar high above the island in an experience they will talk about and remember forever.

  1. Get zippy. The zipline is one of the top things to do on Catalina Island. Kids ages 10 and up and over 80 pounds can zip solo for a thrilling experience they’ll never forget.
  2. Climb a rock and a tree – Descanso Beach is great spot for the whole family. Rent a cabana, grab some lunch, take on the rock climbing wall or go kayaking. Kids will want to try out the new Catalina Aerial Adventure, an obstacle course in the trees that features mini-ziplines, suspension bridges and more.
  3. Get out of town – You and the kids will love getting out of town and experiencing the rest of the island. One of our favorite ways to see the island is on the Ultimate Beach Adventure, which includes a trip down the coast for a day of kayaking, snorkeling and relaxing.
