Experience Catalina’s spectacular coastline as you ride the Cyclone, a high-speed vessel, to Two Harbors. After an exciting 40-minute boat ride, you’ll have time to explore Two Harbors, on Catalina Island’s remote West End. Additional adventures including snorkeling, swimming, hiking, kayaking and stand-up paddling are available – check for rental and guided tour rates. Food and drinks are available for purchase – try a buffalo milk if you’re feeling truly adventurous.
Is there a cost for additional activities in Two Harbors? Yes, there is a fee to rent equipment such as snorkels, kayaks or paddleboards.
How to plan for your day: Discover Two Harbors provides you with a narrated tour along the coast of Catalina and allows you to explore the Isthmus on the west end of the island. Check-in on the Green Pier in Avalon to start your adventure. Enjoy a fast-paced 40-minute speed boat cruise while learning about the island’s natural history. Once in Two Harbors, spend your time as you’d like – explore, relax, or just dine, drink, and people watch. Head back to the pier at approximately 15 minutes prior to departure to check-in for your return boat ride.
For your safety, you should be in good health & free from high blood pressure, heart, neck or back problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this tour. Please note all guests must be able to use ramps and some stairs to enter and exit the Cyclone.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes based on the season. High heels are not recommended. Check the Catalina Island weather forecast and dress appropriately. If you’d like swim in Two Harbors, make sure to bring a swimsuit and beach towel. Changing rooms are available next to the pier & beach. Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are also recommended as there is no shade on the boat. Because of the fast-paced nature of the Cyclone speed boat ride, there may be a chance that you will get wet from salt spray – an extra towel or sarong may be helpful to have on hand.
Check-in with Catalina Island Co. located about 1/2 way up the green Pleasure Pier, on the left-hand side. They will direct you to correct float for boarding. Parking is available approximately 1-2 blocks up the street from the base of the green pier on Catalina Avenue, Descanso Avenue, or Sumner Avenue. Pay special attention to parking signs – most parking within one block of Crescent Avenue are only 1 hour parking (or less). Consider walking downtown and leaving the vehicle home.
Are there restrooms on the Cyclone?
No, but restrooms are available in Two Harbors.
How long will we be able to stay in Two Harbors?
When you travel on the Discover Two Harbors Experience, your time in Two Harbors will depend on which boat times you select. You can have as little as 20-30 minutes if you just want to take the boat ride down, hop out to buy a souvenir and return or you could have up to 8+ hours if you choose the first boat down in the morning and the last boat back in the evening on a weekend that features extended travel times (subject to availability/change). Don’t miss the boat or you will have to spend the night at either the Banning House Lodge or the Two Harbors Campground.
Is food available in Two Harbors?
Yes. The West End Galley is a snack stand offering casual beach fare such as burgers, sandwiches, fries and tacos. There is also a bar with full cocktail service.
What is there to do in Two Harbors?
Two Harbors is a wonderfully relaxing destination. Hiking and swimming are favorite activities. You can also rent snorkel gear, kayaks or paddle boards for an additional charge. For the ultimate Two Harbors beach experience, rent a cabana or chaise lounge.
Can I bring coolers, bikes, or beach chairs on the Cyclone? What about other gear?
You may bring coolers, bikes, and beach chairs with you on the Cyclone speed boat, however be advised they will be subject to a $3 oversized luggage fee per item. Additional luggage or gear is subject to available space and may be allowed subject to the approval of the crew.
