Ever since it opened nearly 15 years ago, the Catalina Island Zipline Eco Tour has become one of the top attractions on Catalina Island. A high-octane thrill fest, the experience whisks thrill seekers down Descanso Canyon across five ziplines, with adventure seekers reaching speeds up to 45 miles per hour. Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know about the zipline on Catalina Island.

It’s a lot of fun: There’s a reason the zipline is one of the most popular things to do on Catalina – it’s a lot of fun. From the moment you step off that first platform to the time you’ll spend reminiscing over all the fun you had, ziplining on Catalina will be a highlight of your trip to the island.

You can do it in a day: For many visitors, the zipline is the perfect thing to do on a day trip to Catalina.

There are height and weight requirements: zipline participants must weigh more than 80 pounds and less than 240 pounds (36kg -108kg) and must be at least 55″ tall (140 cm).

It’ll take a little longer than you think. Even though there will be some high speeds involved, the Catalina zipline experience takes about two hours & 15 minutes, including safety briefing, transportation and instruction. There is a mandatory 20 minute check-in required to get fitted for gear, complete your paperwork, and take the ride from base camp to the first zip line platform.

You can zip at night: During summer weekends you can take the adrenaline up a notch by ziplining at night (subject to availability & staffing).

There’s an age limit: Ziplining on Catalina is available for those ages ten and up.

Appropriate gear: All zipline participants need to dress appropriately. Long pants are encouraged and closed toe shoes are a must. Those with long hair need to secure it, and dangling earrings are discouraged. Lockers are available for participants to store purses and backpacks.

Be nice and sober: As thrilling as it may be, don’t overdo it on the liquid courage before ziplining. Anyone who is obviously impaired will be turned away, as will anyone who is rude or disruptive to the zipline guides or other guests.

Adventure is addictive: The zipline isn’t the only adventurous thing to do on Catalina. For more adventure, check out snorkeling, parasailing, scuba diving and more.
