A fun, natural history paddling tour where you can explore the rugged coastline of Catalina Island in a modern, easy to maneuver & stable sit-on-top kayak for two! Your experienced kayak instructor and knowledgeable guide will teach the basics of paddling so you can set off to kayak along the Catalina coastline. You’ll find out how simple and fun kayaking on Catalina’s clear ocean waters can be.
What will we experience? Once on the water, your kayak guide will point out interesting and historical Catalina Island landmarks, birds & plants and discuss the island’s ancient to modern history, geology, and ecology as you glide over near-shore kelp forests above colorful fish. There’s always something WILD to see… a harbor seal may peek at you from the offshore rocks or a bald eagle may snag a fish from the water nearby.
What to know: Check-in 5-10 minutes before your kayak tour start time. Allow a 15-minute grace period after the tour. At Frog Rock, you’ll land to land your kayak, stretch your legs, have a satisfying snack and a bottle of water, and take a quick dip in the sea if you desire. Suitable for all ages, non-strenuous for beginners. Advanced gear is available for experienced paddlers.
For your safety, you should be in good health & free from high blood pressure, heart, neck or back problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this tour. Weather may impact this excursion. Please contact us in the event of inclement weather.
All participants on this Catalina Island tour will experience a wet bottom and feet. Bathing suits or shorts, T-shirts, surf shoes or sandals, sunglasses, hat and sunscreen are recommended. Bring your own towels, dry bags will be provided. This tour will operate in both rain and shine (water conditions permitting). When needed, windbreaker jackets and water-resistant pants will be provided. While kayaking around Catalina Island, there is a slim possibility of getting drenched. You may want to bring a dry change of clothes for the walk back to Avalon. Lockers, restrooms and changing rooms are available at the Descanso Beach Club.

Do I need a reservation for the Frog Rock Kayak Tour?
Yes. Because of the intimate nature of this experience and the limited number of guides, a reservation is highly recommended.
Where can I put my personal belongings while on tour?
Each location provides an area to store your belongings. It is always best to bring only necessities to your activity as storage space may be limited. Catalina Tours and its vendors are not responsible for the loss, damage or theft of personal property.
Are there restrooms available near the check-in location for the Frog Rock Kayak Tour?
Yes. Restrooms are located just up the walkway from the Descanso Beach Ocean Sports check-in booth. Make sure to use the restroom before you check-in.
