It doesn’t take long to realize that Catalina Island is one of the most picturesque places in Southern California. The charming town of Avalon, the dramatic architecture of the Casino building and the stunning seascapes all seem to call out for photographs, whether it’s a quick snap shot, a stunning landscape or a selfie with you and your bestie.

Here are our top five spots to photograph Catalina Island.

  • Buena Vista Point. The Casino is easily the most photographed landmark in Avalon – and one of the most photographed in Southern California. One of the best places to get a photo of the Casino, as well as Avalon and its beautiful harbor, is Buena Vista Point. This spectacular location, perched above the Cabrillo Mole, offers an unmatched vantage point from which to capture this seaside resort.
  • Old Ben Statute. Kids and adults alike are charmed by the statue of Old Ben, a wild sea lion who made Avalon his home a century ago. Located on the corner of Pebbly Beach Road and Crescent Avenue, the statute is ideal for climbing on while mom or dad snaps a shot. Many families make a photo atop Old Ben an annual tradition, documenting their children’s growth through the years.
  • The Summit. On a clear day, you can see forever. Or at least from Malibu down through Newport Beach. Even when the mainland isn’t visible, the Summit is a beautiful spot for a photo. Challenge yourself by hiking there or take a tour.
  • Via Casino Arch. With its reproduction Catalina tile, red roof and intriguing arches, the Via Casino Arch invites visitors to walk along Via Casino Walkway out to the Casino Building. Stop and catch a photo of the Casino itself framed by those distinctive arches.
  • Little Harbor Overlook. Catalina’s interior abounds with great spots for an unforgettable photo. One of our favorites is this spot above Shark and Little harbors, where the majesty of Catalina’s windward side is revealed.
