Your admission will give you access to the Casino’s public areas all day. Come and go as you like and relax in this art deco masterpiece when you need a moment to slow down.
Take a trip down memory lane to the days when bands were big and movies were just beginning to talk. The Catalina Casino epitomizes everything glamorous about Santa Catalina Island. You’ll see the extraordinary Art Deco murals and the original 1928 pipe organ inside the Avalon Theatre. Stay for a while or just long enough to snap that iconic selfie. Next hit the ramps and continue up to the beautiful, world-famous Casino Ballroom, a masterpiece of design and a long-standing venue for the world’s best musical performers and Big Bands. The ballroom’s promenade offers some of the most spectacular views of Avalon and for decades has been considered the most romantic spot in Avalon.
Tip: Have your cell phone or camera fully charged and consider bringing a battery backup. You’ll want to photograph the Casino Building from top to bottom. They don’t build structures like this anymore. Going live may be a little challenging from inside parts of the building so plan to take video and post when you’re outside of the Casino’s thick cement walls.
For your safety, you should be in good health & comfortable with walking on or moving over a variety of surfaces including cement, pavers, carpet, and ramps with tread. The Catalina Casino is wheelchair accessible. Please note there are 6 ramps that will be used to get from the theater downstairs to the ballroom upstairs. Guests utilizing a wheelchair on the ramps must have someone to push them or plan to use a motorized scooter.
Wear comfortable clothes for the season. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as you will be walking up and down a series of ramps while in the building. Don’t forget your camera – this architectural gem is gorgeous and you will want to capture it on film.

I've been Lindy Hopping/Swing Dancing since 1996...and finally got a chance to dance at the world famous Catalina Casino Ballroom! I had been to Catalina a few times, but never got a chance to go inside... The historic ballroom is gorgeous, glamourous, ginormous and grand! The symmetry and acoustics carry the music evenly throughout, the lighting scheme with its colors and tones make it magical, even during the day! The first floor theater is a retro art deco dream...incredible!
– Johnny T | TripAdvisorThis is a unique place. The word casino here is different from a gambling hall. This word is used to mean “meeting place” which is exactly what it is. The casino has a movie theater in the bottom which was built by the same guy who designed the Grauman's Chinese Theater. It is impressive. Also on the top floor is a converted skating rink which was previously a dance hall - ballroom.
– Sean | TripAdvisorThis Casino is NOT for gambling. Casino is an Italian term for gathering place for family and friends. The lower level is a movie theater. It shows silent films, and new movies and has an organ actually used when they show silent movies. Even the restrooms and cloak rooms are as if it is the 1920s. The top floor was originally a ballroom where famous big bands came to entertain. It is still used sometimes as a ballroom but during the week when we were there you could rent roller skates and skate around on the lovely wooden floor. We had a wonderful time visiting the Casino, learning about its history, watching the short movies in the theater and roller skating.
– Vivian_03 | TripAdvisorThe Catalina Casino is a truly historical treasure that is worth visiting if you are in Catalina. It is easy to do a self-guided tour of the site. Just buy an admission ticket and they will provide you with plenty to read and listen to. It took us about 45-60 minutes to enjoy Catalina Casino. The part I found fascinating was it was a Chicagoan (Wrigley) bringing this to life and that the Cubs used to spring training on the island. Trust me, if you love architecture or art deco or even just immersing in the past....stop is worth it.
– betsnow | TripAdvisorIf you are not on a tour, you can pay an entry fee to do a self guided tour. Beautiful art deco architecture. Start at the entry and look up to see the detailed painting on the walls and ceiling. Once inside you're transported back in time. Enjoy the hallway before entering the theater. Walk up the ramp to the second level and enter the Marine Bar where there is a short film on the history of the casino. Continue up the ramp to the ballroom. The ballroom is now a roller rink with music from the 20's. Walk out onto the balcony around the entire casino. Enjoy the view of Avalon.... And don't forget to look up at the ceiling.
