Catalina Island weather is one of the many wonders of this Southern California vacation destination. Lows rarely exceed 60 degrees in the daytime and even at night temperatures below 50 are a rarity.

Even with the mild weather on Catalina, practical activities change – plunging into the sea without a wetsuit can be a bit chilly, as can sunbathing on the beach. Here a just a few of our favorite things to do on Catalina Island in the winter.

Get a massage – Relaxing under the hands of an experienced massage therapist is a treat no matter what time of year, but winter is a great time to hydrate dry skin and relax tense muscles.

Go hiking – Take advantage of cooler temps and experience the wild side of Catalina Island.

Take a tour – The interior of Catalina offers a world away, with unique wildlife, spectacular vistas and undeveloped terrain found nowhere else in Southern California. Rather stay in town? Winter is a perfect time to go back in time at the Catalina Casino or explore Avalon’s culinary scene on the Avalon Tasting and Walking Tour.

Zip away – Even if you are not feeling the chill, a bit of adrenaline is a great way to warm up. The zipline on Catalina Island offers a high speed experience sure to thrill even the most jaded adventure seeker.

Explore – Whether via Segway or golf cart, on foot or via tour bus, touring Avalon is an ideal activity no matter what the weather.
